Nikolaihof Wachau
2,000 years of living history and tradition
With almost 2,000 years of history, Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria and one of the first in the world to have begun working by biodynamic principles according to the regulations of the Demeter Association. No herbicides, fertilisers, pesticides, or synthetic sprays are used in the vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented without artificial yeast and stored in big, oald Austrian oak casks up to 20 years.
The organic certified Wine Tavern offers guests a traditional and festive range of rooms, as well as an enchanting atmosphere in the courtyard under the linden tree. Nikolaihof is also the perfect venue for a splendid celebration. Its festive rooms offer a wonderful ambience for weddings, baptisms, birthdays and company parties.

Bei den 25. „Gourmand World Cookbook Awards“ in China – der Oscarverleihung unter den Kochbuchautorinnen und -autoren – ist Seniorchefin Christine Saahs mit Platz 1 ausgezeichnet worden.
In „Kochen mit der Kraft der Natur – Wie die Liebe in den Kochtopf kommt“ hat Christine Saahs Rezepte zusammengetragen, die Körper und Geist beflügeln. Heilpflanzen aus Wald und Wiese wandern dabei ebenso in den Kochtopf wie frisches, regionales Obst, Gemüse und - in Maßen - Fleisch. Auch die Schönheit kommt nicht zu kurz: In einem eigenen Kapitel verrät die Autorin, wie man selbst natürliche Salben und Öle herstellt.
„Ich bin unglaublich dankbar über diese Auszeichnung für mein Schaffen, das Weingut, aber auch für das Tourismusland Niederösterreich. Es ist ein sehr schönes Zeichen der Wertschätzung, denn ein Kochbuch ist im Grunde genommen wie ein Kind. Auch beim Schreiben und Gestalten braucht es viel Geduld, Liebe zum Detail, Aufmerksamkeit und viel Zeit. Dass das belohnt wird, ist eine tolle Anerkennung“, so Saahs. Die Feierlichkeiten zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum der Awards sollen samt Preisverleihung vom 3. bis 7. Juni in Paris und vom 1. bis 4. November in China stattfinden – allerdings unter unsicheren Vorzeichen. „Noch steht in den Sternen, ob die Feierlichkeiten stattfinden können. Den Preis würde ich aber sehr gerne persönlich entgegennehmen”, betont Saahs.

Saahs puts a lot of love and knowledge into bringing together recipies that refresh and quicken both body and mind: Medical plants growing in the forest, in the grass or even on our windowsill, find their way into the cooking pot just as fresh, local fruits and vegetables, and sometimes – in moderate amounts – a piece of meat.
