Nikolaihof Wachau

2,000 years of living history and tradition

With almost 2,000 years of history, Nikolaihof is the oldest winery in Austria and one of the first in the world to have begun working by biodynamic principles according to the regulations of the Demeter Association. No herbicides, fertilisers, pesticides, or synthetic sprays are used in the vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand, fermented without artificial yeast and stored in big, oald Austrian oak casks up to 20 years.

The organic certified Wine Tavern offers guests a traditional and festive range of rooms, as well as an enchanting atmosphere in the courtyard under the linden tree. Nikolaihof is also the perfect venue for a splendid celebration. Its festive rooms offer a wonderful ambience for weddings, baptisms, birthdays and company parties.

Nachdem 2016 „Das Wachau Kochbuch“ von Christine Saahs von Gourmand World Cookbook Awards zum weltweit besten regionalen Kochbuch ausgezeichnet wurde, ist ihr erst kürzlich erschienenes Buch
“Kochen mit der Kraft der Natur – Wie die Liebe in den Kochtopf kommt“ zu Österreichs besten Kochbuch ausgezeichnet worden!

„Kochen mit der Kraft der Natur“ geht damit in der Kategorie „Natural Health & Nutrition Herbs“ mit 13 weiteren nominierten Büchern ins Rennen um den Titel des weltweit besten Kochbuchs.
Die Entscheidung wird bei einer Award Show im Mai 2020 in China bekanntgegeben. Insgesamt nehmen heuer Bücher aus 225 Ländern an den Awards teil.
Im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten werden nicht nur die weltbesten Kochbücher ausgezeichnet, sondern auch das 25-jährige Jubiläum von Gourmand World Cookbook Awards gefeiert.

Saahs puts a lot of love and knowledge into bringing together recipies that refresh and quicken both body and mind: Medical plants growing in the forest, in the grass or even on our windowsill, find their way into the cooking pot just as fresh, local fruits and vegetables, and sometimes – in moderate amounts – a piece of meat. Beauty doesn’t fall short either: Easy-to-make creams and oils, crafted by means of well-tried Demeter guidelines, help to enhance our skin and hair.
